First Flight

Just landed in Frankfurt for a layover. Our first flight was almost comically bad. After a delightful stay in the Turkish lounge enjoying some hummus and baklava, we were excited. It started hitting us that this was actually happening. Boom - early boarding call followed by a 45 minute delay. No biggie. We get to our seats and load our monster packs into the overhead (that’s a chore, and I’m sorry in advance to everyone on our next 4286 flights). Turns out, my meticulous seat research didn’t survive first contact with the enemy. We picked the worst seats on the plane. Those dumb metal boxes on the ground; my seat doesn’t recline and tray table doesn’t work right. And the person sitting in front of Nasheed is in up-in-your-grill recline mode... even though she has the bulkhead. #firstsworldproblems Are we still excited? Hell yes — as long as I have the soothing melodies of Adele to rock me to sleep on our red eye. Oh, and Nasheed’s getting on her Christmas cheer with champ and The Holiday. Our wake up: coordinated seat dancing to Soulja Boy. First stop today: Rome for Christmas Eve. Hopefully some Christmas markets, a nice pasta dinner, and a midnight mass.
